Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya on Thursday (23) inaugurated one more welfare project of different nature by making locally-assembled Micro cars, available to Army personnel on concessionary rates.
The scheme, inaugurated under the auspices of the Commander of the Army by the Directorate of Army Welfare in collaboration with Micro Car Company Ltd, offers those state-of-the-art Micro cars to the Army at a concessionary rate of Rs 1.3 million each whereas the actual market price exceeds Rs 1.4 million.
Keys to first ten brand new cars were this morning (23) delivered to 10 Army officers by the Commander of the Army during a brief ceremony at the Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (SLEME) Regimental Headquarters premises in Colombo 2.
Dr Lawrence Perera, Chairman, Micro Car Company Ltd symbolically handed over a set of keys to new cars to the Chief Guest, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya at the start of the day’s proceedings before the Commander distributed them.
Directorate of Army Welfare grants a long-term loan of Rs. 5 lakhs to potential Army buyers for purchase of those economical cars at concessionary rates.
Commander of the Army before the inaugural launch of the scheme closely, watched the first 10 new micro cars on display for distribution under the project and exchanged a couple of views with manufacturers of the vehicle.
